New Drug of the Day :Iobenguane I-123

Iobenguane I¹²³ is a radiolabeled norepinephrine (NE) mimetic with a chemical structure similar to guanethedine. Iobenguane is taken up by the NE transporter in adrenergic nerve terminals and accumulates in adrenergically innervated tissues such as the adrenal medulla, salivary glands, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and tumors derived from the neural crest. Radiolabeled iobenguane was licensed for use as an adjunct to other tests for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma and neuroblastoma.
